Five Fun Easter Yoga and Mindfulness Activities for Children
Mar 29, 2026
The Easter break is a wonderful time for children to recharge. While many look forward to chocolate treats and egg hunts, the change in routine can sometimes lead to restlessness or "sugar highs".
Integrating yoga and mindfulness into Easter celebrations helps children find a sense of balance. These activities support emotional regulation and physical coordination while keeping the festive spirit alive. Whether you are a nursery practitioner, a primary teacher, or a yoga instructor, these simple ideas are easy to use in any setting.
1. The "Bunny Breath" for Focus
Breathing exercises are fantastic tools for helping children calm their nervous systems. The Bunny Breath is particularly effective for improving focus and clearing the senses.
-
How to do it: Ask the children to sit comfortably. Invite them to take three short, quick sniffs through the nose, just like a rabbit sniffing for carrots.
-
The release: Follow this with one long, smooth exhale through the mouth.
-
The benefit: This helps children settle before a seated activity or after a high-energy game.
2. Spring Seedling Pose (Child’s Pose)
Easter symbolises new growth. This pose represents a small seed waiting to grow into a spring flower. It is a brilliant way to encourage quiet reflection and "internal" focus.
-
How to do it: Kneel on the floor and sit back on your heels. Fold forward until your forehead touches the ground. Place your arms alongside your body.
-
The visual: Tell the children they are tiny seeds tucked under the warm soil.
-
The benefit: This gently stretches the lower back and provides a "quiet space" for children who may feel overwhelmed by loud holiday activities.
3. The Balancing Egg (Tree Pose Variation)
Balance is essential for physical development and concentration. In this version, we imagine we are trying to keep a precious Easter egg safe and steady.
-
How to do it: Stand tall. Place the sole of one foot against the ankle of the opposite leg. Bring your hands together at your chest as if you are holding a golden egg.
-
The challenge: Can you keep your "egg" still without it wobbling?
-
The benefit: This builds core strength and helps children learn to steady their minds when they feel wobbly or frustrated.
4. An "Easter Hunt" for the Senses
Mindfulness is about being present in the moment. Instead of a traditional chocolate hunt, try a sensory walk in a garden or local park.
-
The activity: Ask children to find three things they can see (like yellow daffodils), two things they can hear (like birdsong), and one thing they can feel (like the cool breeze).
-
The benefit: This aligns with recognised wellbeing frameworks that encourage "taking notice" to reduce anxiety and improve mood.
5. Cracking the Shell (Happy Baby Pose)
This is a playful pose that children of all ages enjoy. It mimics a chick breaking out of its shell.
-
How to do it: Lie on your back and bring your knees to your chest. Grab the outsides of your feet and rock gently from side to side.
-
The sound: Children can make little "cheep cheep" sounds as they hatch.
-
The benefit: This pose relieves tension in the hips and spine and encourages a sense of playfulness and joy.
