Human beings are built with an array of complexed needs. From physical health to psychological wellbeing, there are many choices we have to consider in order to maintain a healthy life. One of the most important tools to utilize is the ability to influence control over our Mental Health. Our behaviours, senses, emotions and physical abilities to operate with coordination and regulation, both day and night, solely rely on the functionality of our brain. Our brains require substantial amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidant nourishment to fuel its optimisation. Without such fuel our brains begin to malfunction, causing severe impairment on our mental state and consequently disrupting our ability to control physical activity. When your brain is deprived of good-quality nutrition, damaging inflammatory cells begin to circulate in its enclosed area, contributing to brain tissue injury and increased health problems. It is vital we provide our brain with the daily nutrients it needs to function efficiently and effectively and to prevent oxidative stress which can further damage its cells.

There are many correlations between what you eat, how you behave and how you feel, all interlinked with the types of bacteria stored in your gut. Let’s imagine our gut as a brand-new unfurnished house. Now, to make your house a pleasant environment to live in, you’ll need some essentials. Good utilities, usable furniture, running water and so on. Without such essentials, your new home would be completely unliveable, you simply cannot maintain adequate health living in an empty home with spoilt furniture, no running water and no electricity. This is similar to how our gut operates. Your gastrointestinal tract is crammed with millions of nerve cells and neurons, which all rely on billions of ‘good bacteria’ from essential nutrience. Without such nutrience, important neurotransmitters such as serotonin (the happiness hormone) which help regulate sleep, appetite, mood and pain, begin to malfunction, causing injurious impact on your body’s ability to function. Around 95% of your body’s serotonin is produced in your gastronomical tract, therefore diets high in refined sugars or processed meats not only worsen your body’s ability to regulate insulin, but also increase the symptoms of severe mood disorders such as depression and anxiety due to faulty neurological regulation.

It is extremely important our brain gets the correct amount of daily nutrients it requires to operate propitiously. Taking control of your diet is a transformative process that allows you to improve your quality of life and optimise a true state of happiness. It is an easy-accessible, faultless tool which offers supreme results on personal health and wellbeing. With a sturdy regulation of positive behavioural habits, you’ll give yourself a chance to remould your future. After all, you are what you eat.
