Meet Shania: Children's Yoga Teacher

Hey, I’m Shania

I’m a singer song writer who plays bass guitar and I am also a crochet designer who has been practising yoga since I was 13.

Finding a passion and love for yoga as a teen genuinely saved my life and allowed me to find peace within myself. As a kid I struggled a lot with anxiety and depression and I was looking for something that would help me feel grounded and safe in my body and I discovered yoga.

Yoga for me is also a sense of a play. Discovering new poses, challenging myself and accomplishing new skills reminds me of being a a child in a playground. Practicing it remind me that If I put my mind towards anything I can achieve it.

I’ve always been interested in movement and how i it makes the mind and body feel connected but also how It makes me feel connected to everything around me. The body is a powerful tool that we should love and cherish as it allows us to explore and experience life.

I am genuinely very excited to be working with children and introducing them to yoga as I feel as if it can have such a positive impact.

What type of music are you Into?

I always find this question difficult to answer because I listen to such a wide variety of music. I love R&B, Neo soul, alternative indie, some rock music, 80s pop, and the list goes on. Music is something that lights up my soul and sometimes when I feel like I’m not understood by anyone, I know that the music I listen to resonates with me.

What was the last thing you read?

The 40 rules of Love by Elif Shafak

This was such a beautiful book that explores themes of religion, love and unity. I can honestly say it has changed my perspective on so much in my life and has reinforced the importance of how we should all lean into to the feeling of love and compassion instead of hate and judgment.

It’s also really cool because there’s two stories within the one story but it all fits together so well.

Would you say your more an introvert or extrovert?

I would 100% say Im an introvert. I’ve always enjoyed my own company and feel the most comfortable in my own space. I love socialising and being around those I love and care about but my social battery dies after a while and I immediately want to be back in my own space again. If I’m out with friends one week then I need like a month to recharge again.

What was the last tv show you binged watched?

I last binged watched Scandal and it was an amazing show. I honestly was sad when it came to an end. I’m someone with a short attention span so when I watch a show I like when there’s always something going on so I’m not bored. There was so much drama in scandal and it has me hooked I finished it in under a month and it was a long show.

What’s your best concert you’ve ever been too?

I went to watch Tame Impala last year and it was the most amazing concert I’ve ever been too. The visuals were out of this world and the vibe that was created by everyone there just made it that extra special. Seeing Kevin Parker on that stage was such a surreal moment for me because one he’s one of my favourite musicians because of how much talent he posées but two because I want to be on stage with him at least once in my life.

What song always gets you on the dance floor?

Let’s dance by David Bowie is a song that I hear immediately and can’t stop myself from moving. I’ve loved that song from such a young age and another song that has had the same impact is Candy by Cameo. For me that’s one is apart of a culture. At every family function, party or even on cleaning Sundays that song plays and you can’t help but want to dance. One time me and my friend were shopping in H&M and the song came on. We stopped what we were doing and did the dance. We had loads of people staring at us but you can’t just not dance to that song, no matter where you are.
