for young people with SEN

 

Yoga and mindfulness give young people with SEN practical tools they can use every day.

They follow steady routines that lower stress and support emotional control. Slow movements improve motor control. Breathing work builds focus. Short mindfulness moments help them pause and manage overload.

These practices fit easily into the school day and deliver clear, repeatable gains.

Yoga and mindfulness support key areas in the SEN curriculum, but in a simple and practical way.

Young people move through clear patterns that build balance, coordination, core strength, and motor planning. They follow easy cues and repeat familiar steps, which helps them follow instructions and share their needs.

Short breathing and grounding practices help them spot rising stress and steady themselves. Calm starts and planned movement breaks reduce overload and lift focus. Pair work and small group tasks build turn taking and shared space skills.

These activities link to common SEN targets in behaviour, self-management, sensory regulation, and independence.
